Infertility investigation and treatment


Around one in six couples have difficulty in achieving a pregnancy and this proportion is increasing.

The Glasgow Centre for Reproductive Medicine (GCRM) have been the pioneers of indivualised treatment protocols for people seeking assisted conception.

We recognise the need for individuals and couples to receive expert advice and to have appropriate treatment options discussed and this is why shortly after opening in Glasgow, GCRM launched their satellite service in collaboration with The Edinburgh Clinic.

We offer swift access to a number of consultants specialising in infertility headed in Edinburgh by Prof. Richard Anderson who is a world renowned expert in this field. The systematic approach to investigation and treatment has made GCRM, the leading IVF unit in Scotland. Through this structure we provide a full range of infertility treatment options:

Generally the diagnostic tests are conducted in Glasgow, which allows you to meet the team in Glasgow and see the centre prior to your theatre procedures. You will then have an initial consultation with a GCRM doctor at The Edinburgh Clinic to discuss both partners' medical history, explore your options, discuss if any further investigations are required and which treatments are available to you.

GCRM expert fertility nurses come to The Edinburgh Clinic to undertake the consenting process and also all necessary scans and blood tests for monitoring you throughout the treatment itself. This provides increased continuity of care and saves you making the journey to Glasgow, until it is time for your theatre procedure (which must be carried out in our HFEA licensed theatre and laboratory). Should treatment be recommended to you, it can usually be started almost immediately.
