3D and 4D scans
(26 - 32 weeks)

Traditional ultrasound scanning creates two-dimensional images of your baby.  This is sufficient to check the health and wellbeing of your baby and provide you with the reassurance you need. However, when you are awaiting the birth of your baby, watching your baby in 3D and/or 4D can be an incredibly special and highly emotional experience.

With both 3D and 4D scans, the images obtained depend upon the position and gestation of the baby to produce good images. If you would like to have 3D and 4D images of your baby, 26-32 weeks is the ideal time to have a scan.  At this stage of the pregnancy, your baby’s facial features will have developed although, even at this gestation, we are not able to guarantee perfect images, especially as your baby may be curled up in a position that makes it almost impossible to capture a clear image of him or her.  However, we always do our best to ensure you receive the best possible momento of your unborn baby.

3D scans

The 3D scan creates non-moving three-dimensional pictures which provide a fascinating glimpse of your baby’s features and often an amazingly accurate glimpse of how your baby will look when he or she makes their first appearance.  As with all our scans, we can supply electronic files of the still images on a memory stick which you can take home and share with your friends and family.

4D scans

Using the very latest ultrasound technology, The Edinburgh Clinic can produce 4D images of your baby.  A 4D scan will show your baby in a similar way as a 3D scan, however, as the fourth dimension is time, with this scan, you will be able to see your baby moving in real time and watch your baby playing, sucking his or her thumb, wiggling his or her toes, moving into a more comfortable position.

A short clip of your unborn baby can be supplied as an electronic file on a memory stick which you’ll be able to watch for years to come.
