Anomaly scan
(18 – 22 weeks)

This detailed scan of your baby is carried out between 18 and 22 weeks of pregnancy.  At this stage, all of your baby’s major organs will have developed and will be readily visualised by ultrasound. During the anomaly scan, each part of the baby's body is examined, which provides a wonderful opportunity to study your baby - perhaps with a 3D scan if your baby is well-positioned - and for Dr Calderwood to check your baby is developing correctly.

An anomaly scan takes approximately 45 minutes, which allows you and Dr Calderwood ample time to discuss the findings of the scan and any concerns or queries you may have.  Occasionally, an abnormality will be detected which may require further investigations.  In this instance, Dr Calderwood would arrange a referral directly back to your NHS consultant or GP and would liaise with them to ensure continuity of your family's care.
