Career Information
Dr Shand is an Aberdeen graduate. He then trained in Gastroenterology and General Medicine in Edinburgh and London.
He is fully trained in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and colonoscopy and also possesses expertise in the area of short bowel syndrome and nutritional therapies of gastrointestinal problems.
He diagnoses and treats a large number of people with a wide variety of gastrointestinal complaints affecting the whole of the gastrointestinal tract including the investigation and treatment of unintended weight loss.
His interests are focused my on the care of people who have Inflammatory Bowel Disease, particularly those who also have nutritional problems, and people with Coeliac disease.
Drawing on this clinical and diagnostic experience, along with his colleagues in Edinburgh Gastroenterology, he aims to deliver the highest quality of care to people with digestive or gastrointestinal problems.
Other information
Alan has three young children which occupy most of his spare time. He also enjoys running, golf and listening to music.
