Dr Catherine Calderwood MA Cantab. MBChB MRCOG

Catherine is a Consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist working at both St John’s Hospital in Livingston and at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh. She has now been working within the field of obstetrics for 12 years and has specialized in looking after those women with complicated pregnancies. She provides scans throughout pregnancy including early pregnancy, anomaly and growth scans. She uses her expertise in scanning to fully assess the well being of the pregnancies under her care. She liases closely with the other Consultant obstetricians in Lothian.
Having studied medicine at Cambridge University then in Glasgow, Catherine completed her specialist training in obstetrics here in Edinburgh. She spent 2 years training in maternal medicine in Glasgow and at St Thomas’s Hospital, London. She was awarded the Diploma in Advanced Obstetric ultrasound by the Standing Joint committee of the Royal College of Radiologists and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in May 2007. She is the RCOG lead for ultrasound training in South East Scotland and is on both local and national committees for the delivery of obstetric ultrasound services.
Away from work Catherine has 3 young children aged 8, 6 and 3. She recently completed the Edinburgh 10k run, climbs Munros and enjoys mountain biking. During her medical training she travelled extensively in South America, Africa, India and Nepal and more recently has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, sailed in the Windward Islands and been sky diving in New Zealand.
