Dr Penman is trained in medicine in Glasgow and underwent postgraduate training in medicine and gastroenterology there. He completed his training in Edinburgh and South Carolina, USA.
He is an accredited specialist in gastroenterology, dealing with a broad range of gut disorders including gastro-oesophageal reflux, Barrett's Oesophagus, upper gastrointestinal malignancy, inflammatory bowel disease and colon cancer.
His special interests are in endoscopic procedures, particularly endoscopic ultrasonography and colonoscopy.
