Professional Profile
Mr Ben Thomas qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1995. Having undertaken two years of research into aspects of the metastatic pathway in prostate cancer, he was awarded his MD thesis.
Ben completed general and specialist Urological training in Sheffield and North Trent, before being appointed Consultant Urological Surgeon to the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh and the Borders General Hospital, Melrose.
He practices general urology in both hospitals, and his specialist practice of Endourology and the management of Urinary stone disease, within the Scottish Lithotriptor Centre. Hence, in addition to general urology, Ben offers the full spectrum of surgical treatments for urinary stone disease, including extra-corporeal lithotripsy, ureteroscopy (semi-rigid and flexible) and lasertripsy, as well as percutaneous surgery.
Ben is actively involved in teaching and training at all levels and has recently written a book chapter as well as two reviews on various aspects of stone disease
