At Nuffield Health Edinburgh Hospital, we understand that it’s difficult for busy GPs to meet the needs of all their patients in the way they would ideally like.

That’s why we’ve introduced our own Private GP service, offering patients quick and easy access to a fully qualified NHS trained GP whenever they wish – including the reassurance of being able to arrange an appointment at short notice.

FAQs

  • How quickly could I get a GP appointment at Nuffield Health Edinburgh Hospital?

Through our private GP service we are usually able to offer an appointment for the same day or within 24 hours of you making contact. We also provide the opportunity to arrange a GP appointment for a date and time that best suits you.

By offering this flexibility we can help you avoid the worry of waiting to discuss any health issues you may have. Appointments can take place Monday to Friday and are subject to availability

  • How long would my private GP appointment be?

Not only can it be hard to get an appointment at short notice, but the pressure on GPs means that they can often only spend a short time with each patient, with appointments as short as 10 minutes becoming the norm.

At Edinburgh Hospital, our standard consultation time with a GP is 30 minutes, with longer appointment times of up to an hour also available if you feel this would be of greater benefit to you.

  • What happens if I miss or can’t attend my appointment?

If you have arranged an appointment in the future, you can cancel it without charge up to 48 hours in advance.

Any appointments that are not attended or are cancelled within 48 hours of the scheduled time are subject to the full consultation charge being applied.

  • Can the private GPs at Edinburgh Hospital arrange specialist referrals or screening?

Yes. If it’s clinically justified following your initial GP appointment, we can arrange a speedy onward referral to the most appropriate choice of specialist from our panel of over 100 consultants.

In addition, choosing our Private GP service also offers immediate access if required to our extensive in-house diagnostic imaging facilities including X-ray, Ultrasound, CT, MRI and DXA scanning.

Under the umbrella of our Private GP service, we offer a comprehensive choice of general and specialist health screening services from mole assessments to prostate, bowel and osteoporosis screening.
