The purpose of Healthcare Improvement Scotland is to enable the people of Scotland to experience the best quality of health and social care.

HIS quality of care approach and the quality framework allows themto provide external assurance of the quality of healthcare provided in Scotland.

Their inspectors use this approach to check independent healthcare services regularly to make sure that they are complying with necessary standards and regulations. Inspections may be announced or unannounced.
