Jim was born and brought up in Zambia. Trained in the UK, he has since lived and worked in Botswana, Malawi, South Africa, Madagascar and Mozambique. He has a broad range of medical experience, with particular interests in tropical diseases, infectious diseases and public health, developed while working as a doctor in Africa.
Jim has worked as an expedition doctor since 1996 and in clinical Travel Medicine since 1999. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, where he currently teaches on the Membership Diploma and Foundation courses. He has also ben awarded the Certificate of Travel Health Knowledge by the International Society of Travel Medicine.
Jim has also worked for over 21 years as an occupational health physician to the British Army, and latterly for an Occ Health and Travel Clinic in Dunfermline. His current Occ Health work primarily involves pre-deployment and post-deployment medical assessments for workers going to work abroad, which links in well with his interests in Travel Medicine. He is a registered Oil & Gas UK (OGUK) medicals provider.
