Insured patients

The Edinburgh Clinic is accepted by all major insurers. If you have health insurance you will enjoy the benefits of being a private patient at The Edinburgh Clinic. If you are not covered by insurance then you can also pay for your own treatment – it may be more affordable than you think.

Step-by-step process to treatment

1. Speak to your GP
For most hospital services you will need to be referred by your GP or other healthcare professional before you can be seen at any UK hospital. When your GP recommends that you need to see a specialist consultant, ask them to refer you to The Holly Private Hospital.

2. Contact your insurance company
Coverage of treatment differs across insurance providers, so it is essential that you check the terms and conditions of your policy with your insurer before you have a consultation, investigation, any diagnostic imaging or treatment. They will tell you whether your policy will cover the treatment and how to make a claim. They will also confirm if there is an excess for you to pay. Please note we require your membership number which may also be called a policy number or a plan number. Please ask your insurer for this.

3. Book a consultation
Once you have authorisation, you can book an initial consultation and then treatment, if necessary, directly with us at a time to suit you:

4. Pay for treatment
All charges are pre-agreed with your insurance company and we can usually arrange direct payment with them. If this is not possible or you do not bring your completed claim form and insurance authorisation into hospital with you, then we will ask you to pay your account, in full, yourself upon discharge and then you will need to contact your insurer for reimbursement. Please note there are also some inpatient charges which are not covered by insurance such as phone calls, take-home drugs or physiotherapy aids.
