Aspen wins in nominated categories at Independent Healthcare Awards 2013

Aspen Healthcare, owners of The Edinburgh Clinic, was the proud recipient of two national awards at the recent Laing & Buisson Independent Healthcare Awards 2013, as well as being finalists in two other categories.

Helen Cairney and the Physiotherapy team at Holly House Hospital – Winner of the category for Healthcare Outcomes

Helen and the Physiotherapy Team at Holly House Hospital have developed a stress management programme, “The Calm Choice”, to improve outcomes for patients suffering from neck and shoulder pains, jaw pain, cervicogenic headaches and low back pain.

Cecilia De Villiers and the Rehabilitation Service team at Cancer Centre London – Winner of the category for Medical Practice

Cecilia and the team have developed a new rehabilitation pathway for neuro-oncology patients.  The pathway reflects a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to support patients during their radiotherapy treatment for brain tumours.  

Judi Ingram, Group Clinical Director - Finalist in the category for Management Excellence

Following a comprehensive review of governance models globally, Judi has developed a bespoke model which rigorously aligns all elements of governance and clearly demonstrates Aspen’s commitment to excellence and quality.  

David Bell and the Outreach Pre-Assessment Team at Claremont Hospital - Finalist in the category for Nursing Practise

David and the team at Claremont Hospital have taken pre-operative assessment to another level by devising an outreach pre-operative assessment service for its spinal surgery patients.  Experienced Sisters and Charge Nurses from the pre-operative assessment team are on-site at local hospitals to carry out pre-operative checks and discuss comorbidities avoiding patients having to travel long distances on repeated occasions in preparation for their admission.

Aspen Chief Executive Des Shiels, said: "I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the accomplishments of two of our wonderful doctors at the Cancer Centre London; Professors’ Trevor and Ray Powles who received the highly prestigious Lifetime Achievement award at this year’s Pride of Britain Awards 2013 for their work in Cancer research. The Awards were presented by the Prime Minister and broadcast on ITV last night.  They received a standing ovation for their amazing work, which has saved thousands of lives in Britain and around the world.
