Physiotherapy – Women’s and Men’s Health

Women’s and men’s health physiotherapy is the specialist service available privately at The Edinburgh Clinic for the assessment and management of a range of conditions which affect the lower urinary tract and musculoskeletal systems. It can be particularly useful in men and women who have undergone urology treatment or surgery, and gynaecology surgery for women. Women’s and men’s health physiotherapy can also be helpful in improving muscle tone and pelvic floor stability in women following pregnancy and child birth, and for men following prostate treatment, amongst many other conditions.

An appointment can be made with a specialist physiotherapist for assessment and management of a wide range of conditions, including:

  • urinary incontinence
  • urinary urgency
  • urinary frequency
  • prolapse
  • musculoskeletal pelvic pain conditions
  • post radical prostatectomy urinary incontinence
  • neuropathic pain conditions

Treatments can include:

  • bladder training regimes
  • pelvic floor exercises
  • trigger point therapy
  • core stability exercises
  • education and advice

An appointment with a specialist will involve a detailed continence assessment, which can include an internal pelvic floor assessment if required. Your appointment will be held in one of our private, comfortable consulting rooms, within the unique quality clinical environment of The Edinburgh Clinic. During you appointment, the specialist will identify a treatment pathway and any will arrange follow-up appointments at the clinic for you.
