Psychiatry

Psychiatry considers the biological, social and psychological origins of mental distress.  Our Psychiatrist treats each accordingly using both medications, if needed, in combination with psychotherapeutic interventions.

Unlike other mental health professionals, such as psychologists and counsellors, psychiatrists must be medically qualified doctors who have chosen to specialise in psychiatry. This means they can prescribe medication as well as recommend other forms of treatment.

Our Psychiatrist, Dr Richard Taylor, has many years experience in treating people with depressive disorders, anxiety disorders and people with more complex long standing interpersonal/internal struggles using a psychodynamic approach where medication and other brief counseling or psychotherapy has only partially helped and where a longer time in therapy may be needed either as an individual or part of a group.
